Additional Information: | The Twentieth Century Commercial style Hoyt Building was constructed in 1909. Two of the first tenants were the Wauwatosa Dairy in 1915, then the Gridley Dairy took over in 1919. The Gridley Dairy, part of a larger creamery business, moved to a new distribution center on North Wauwatosa Avenue in 1925. The second floor served as the Wauwatosa City Hall from 1916 to 1936. After that the upper floor served as apartments. Samuel Hoyt owned the building until 1926, when it was sold to the A & P Grocery chain. In 1939, the building was expanded to the north with a large addition. A & P operated in the building until 1949. |
