Additional Information: | The General Merchandise Company Distribution Center was constructed at 11800 W. Burleigh Street in the rapidly growing industrial corridor on the west side of Wauwatosa in 1958. The thirteen-acre building was acquired by J.C. Penney for use as the J.C. Penney Catalog General Merchandise in 1963 and expanded. It was used as the primary Midwestern warehouse and distribution point for the national department store and catalog chain. The building is presently operated as the J.C. Penney Furniture Outlet and Warehouse. |
