NOTES
Additional Information:Stephen Briggs and Harold Stratton partnered in 1908 to establish the Briggs and Stratton Company in Milwaukee. Initially, they produced automobile parts as a small tool and die manufacturer and later began producing small gasoline engines in the 1920s and 1930s. The company developed the lightweight aluminum engine in 1953 for lawn and garden work. In 1955, Briggs and Stratton constructed a new production facility for small engines in Wauwatosa. The plant was expanded significantly in 1967 and again in 1974. The Wauwatosa Plant has continued to produce a wide variety of small engines and other machines since its introduction, along with added offices, warehouses, and research and development spaces.
