Additional Information: | 2016- "This two-story vernacular house was constructed c.1915. It is clad in rusticated concrete blocks, rests on a concrete block foundation, and features a hip roof covered in asphalt shingles with large wall dormers on the front (east) facade and side (north) elevation, wide eave overhangs with vinyl soffits, and a brick chimney that stands on the side (south) elevation. The south wing of the house has been clad in vinyl siding with a small hip roof vestibule along the facade sheathed in vertical wood siding. Windows are mostly replacement, one-over-one, double-hung sash with concrete sashes and sills; large windows are set in the wall dormers and a fixed light with an original leaded-glass transom stands north of the entrance. A hip-roof porch stretches across the facade and is supported on rounded columns with bands of rusticated concrete. The house includes a c.1940 shed roof addition along the rear (west) elevation. A detached, rusticated, concrete block garage stands southwest of the house; its single entrance bay has been infilled with a six-light window and wood door. A date stone reading “1917” is centered above the bay. Building materials were likely obtained from Wing Brothers Concrete Block Manufacturing, which was founded in 1905 and located one-half mile east of downtown Pardeeville.(1) This local facility was part of a larger trend of metal-pressed concrete block construction across Wisconsin that lasted from approximately 1905 until 1925, peaking in the early 1910s.(2)" -"STH 22: STH 16-CTH CM/Barry Rd", WisDOT#6050-00-01, Prepared by Mead & Hunt, Inc.
