Additional Information: | 2017- "This Contemporary school building was constructed in 1952. Designed by Childs and Smith, an architectural firm in Chicago, the building originally had only one story containing four classrooms, but was quickly enlarged in 1955 to include an additional six rooms, a multi-purpose room, and auxiliary rooms in a partially submerged, two-story building. The school features brick-faced walls and a flat roof. The older portions of the school feature deep overhanging eaves and ribbons of tri-partite windows. Newer portions, which flank the original building and 1955 addition to the north and south, are two stories and have no eaves to speak of. They generally contain double-hung windows that are grouped in twos and threes. The northern addition features bands of aggregate-finished concrete panels between the window openings. Further additions to the school, including a brick gymnasium to the south, took place in 1963 and 1990." -"City of Manitowoc Boundaries", WisDOT#1500-37-00, 1500-47-00, 4560-12-00, Prepared by Kelly Noack, (2017). |
