| Additional Information: | 2017- "This Contemporary elementary school was built in 1969 and designed by Manitowoc architects Percival and Frederick Brandt. Located near the northern boundary of the city, this school was constructed in a quadrangle shape with an interior courtyard, with a poured concrete foundation, flat roof with no eaves, and brown, brick-veneered exterior walls. Like Monroe Elementary, Stangel Elementary was designed with hexagonal classrooms, a configuration which is apparent from the exterior. Concrete cantons are present at the exterior points and seams of the hexagons, and reappear throughout the building between bays of windows and near the recessed entryways. Windows are in bays of two or three, and are 1-over-1 double hung with slightly-recessed spandrel panels of lighter brick above and below. Original construction of the building called for 21 rooms, including a gymnasium, art room, music room and cafeteria, and no additions to the school have been undertaken." -"City of Manitowoc Boundaries", WisDOT#1500-37-00, 1500-47-00, 4560-12-00, Prepared by Kelly Noack, (2017). |
