NOTES
Additional Information:2017- "This one-story, brick-faced commercial building consists of a retail storefront and a greenhouse to the rear. Although the door has since been boarded over, the angled and flat-roofed display window projection defines the Contemporary-style structure. Signage on the roof, which reads Baldwin Florist, as well as painted wall signage on the north, identifies the building’s second owner and a brick chimney runs up the south side of the building. The former greenhouse at the rear has been entirely boarded over. Built in 1950, the Holl Floral Shop, which was operated by Erwin B. Holl, opened in January 1951. Holl was born in 1903 and, after initially employed as a sheet metal worker, he joined Mr. Gresl in a florist operation located at 3173 N. Humboldt Avenue. Holl operated the N. Teutonia Avenue floral shop until selling to Constance Baldwin in 1974. The building operated as a floral shop through at least 2005 but has stood vacant (and in deteriorating condition) for a number of years." -"N Teutonia Ave: W Groeling Ave to W Capitol Dr", WisDOT#2080-00-02, Prepared by Heritage Research, Inc. (Schnell), (2017). From a member of the public: 3825 N Teutonia Ave was Baldwin’s Florist the first black owned flower shop. It was started by the daughter of the first knowingly elected black Assemblyman Lee Roy Simmons.
