HAER INVENTORY (06/1979): This bottling works was founded in 1909 by Vincent Kruger. When the company started, there was only one machine that bottled soda pop one bottle at a time. This machine was on the main floor with hoses leading up through the ceiling to the syrup and mixing room. Some time later Frank Kujawa took over the business and began to expand. He constantly experimented with new and different flavors from OKy (root beer) to pineapple and strawberry. After Frank, Norbert Kujawa took over the company, keeping it in the family. By 1954, the employment was up to five people, they had a new truck, and were bottling forty cases a day - ginger ale being their biggest seller. At this they were getting all their flavoring from Milwaukee and New Orleans and they sole in a twenty mile radius. The company was processing until its closing in December 1978. The original section of the building, made of wood and cut stone, measures 20' x 28' and stand two stories. A rectangular addition was added pre- 1916 as a storage area and garage. 2008-No longer extant |
