Additional Information: | VIROQUA INDUSTRIAL PARK COMPLIANCE PROJECT - THIS BARN IS THE LAST REMNANT OF WHAT WAS ONCE LIKELY A LARGE NUMBER OF AGRICULTURAL OUTBUILDINGS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VERNON COUNTY "POOR FARM". BUILT CIRCA 1950 IN THE GOTHIC STYLE, THE METAL ROOF COMES NEARLY TO THE GROUND, MEETING THE CONCRETE BLOCK FOUNDATION. THE VERNON COUNTY "POOR FARM" WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1868 AT THE NORTH END OF THE CITY OF VIROQUA, AND INCLUDED THE (NOW NOT EXTANT) VERNON COUNTY INSANE ASYLUM, THE VERNON COUNTY HOME (ALSO NOT EXTANT -SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS THE "OLD HOME"), THE VERNON COUNTY HOME FOR RETIRED CITIZENS (AHI #237347) AND OTHER AGRICULTURAL SUPPORT BUILDINGS. |
