NOTES
Additional Information:2019 City of New Berlin survey recommendation write-up: Sheathed with a stone veneer, this hipped-roof, custom-built Ranch house features a two-car garage, as well as a workshop at its northernmost end. The home’s primary entrance is located between the house proper and the garage, the doorway of which is flanked by glass block sidelights. Windows throughout the Wildwood Drive-facing elevation are comprised of large, plate-glass examples, all of which retain their original wood-frame venting along the lower edge. An exterior chimney rises along the south end of the house, while an interior chimney rises near the home’s entrance. Built in 1953, this was the home of Leonard and Joyce Heise. Born in 1925 in Shawano County, Leonard was the son of farmer Charles Heise and wife Dorothy. In June 1948, Leonard wed Joyce Liebl of Milwaukee. According to a 1963 directory, Leonard advertised himself as a custom builder, specifically citing cabinets, fireplaces and remodeling. It is unclear, however, if he was responsible for the construction of his own home. The Heises remained in the home until 1968, at which time they moved to Sawyer Lake, Langlade County. Leonard died in June 1986 and Joyce died in 2015.
