NOTES
Additional Information:2019 City of New Berlin survey recommendation write-up: This one-story house is sheathed with limestone and the house proper is comprised of a pair of front-facing gabled wings that are attached at the center by a side-gabled section. The house continues to the west with a small breezeway that attaches to a front-gabled, single-car garage with a wood-and-glass paneled door; the westernmost end includes a frame, two-story garage with a wooden-panel door. Windows throughout the house are double-hung, all of which appear to retain their original, two-over-two or two-over-three-light, horizontal-pane sash (typical of late 1940s and 1950s homes). Most windows are framed by decorative shutters. Located in the Pintars Acres Subdivision, this house was built for Joseph & Verna Faragher who purchased the subject lot in October 1947. Assessor’s records indicate that the house was built in 1950; however, it’s possible that it may have been built as early as 1948-49. The 1940 census places the Faraghers in Cudahy, where twenty-seven-year-old, Madison-born Joseph worked as an assembler and the household included three kids, ages 2, 3 and 4. They would ultimately have four children. In 1952, the Faraghers added the breezeway and single-car garage. Shortly thereafter, the Faraghers would split their time between their New Berlin home and northern Wisconsin where, during the summers, they operated the Fairwood Motel on Range Line Lake. In 1960, they sold the house to real estate man Walter Kassuba who, in turn, sold the home to Donald and Delores Winkler. The Winklers added the two-car garage to the house in 1979. The house remains in the Winkler family.
