Additional Information: | Built circa 1923 is a brick three-story factory building with a gable roof and parapets at the north and south gable ends. The building has industrial steel sash windows recessed between brick pilasters. Many of the windows have broken glazing or are boarded up. There is a one-story brick section addition on the western elevation. The eastern elevation includes several large concrete block additions in an irregular shape and a one-story metal-clad addition on the eastern elevation of the original brick building. The Cobb Canning Factory was the only factory-style operation in Cobb. The factory canned locally grown corn and peas, fueling the local economy from circa 1923 to sometime in the 1990s. Multiple large additions denigrate the overall integrity of design, materials, and workmanship. The factory was built adjacent to the railroad tracks and depot, but the tracks and depot are no longer present, diminishing the setting. |
