Additional Information: | 01/2021: The property includes a highly altered ca. 1900 side-gabled dwelling with multiple additions (a), a ca. 1950 barn (b), and two ca. 1975 silos (c and d) associated with a non-historic-age barn. The dwelling (a) has undergone multiple rounds of addition and alteration obscuring its original form, footprint, and architectural detailing. The resource (a) features a cross-gabled metal roof due to a rear addition, an exterior concrete block chimney addition, replacement vinyl siding, replacement vinyl windows, and a small shed-roof front porch addition over the central front entrance. Other additions include a large shed-roof side addition, a rear attached garage addition, and an uncovered front deck and raised basement of concrete block. The linear-plan barn (b) features a metal gabled roof, replacement metal cladding, and enclosed windows on the side elevations. A large gabled addition flanks the eastern elevation. A pair of concrete stave silos (c and d) with aluminum-clad roofs are located north of the barn. According to the 1914 and 1918 Grant County Plat Maps, D.E. Spaith (spelled Spease on the 1918 Plat Map) owned the property (Keyon Company 1914; Geo. A. Ogle & Company 1918). The presumed dwelling (a) is depicted on the 1900, 1904, 1908 Lancaster quadrangle and 1918 maps (USGS 1900, 1904, 1908; Geo. A. Ogle & Company 1918). The dwelling (a) and linear plan barn (b) are visible on 1955 aerial imagery (NETR 2020). The two silos (c and d) are visible on 1982 aerial imagery (NETR 2020). |
