NOTES
Additional Information:This 2-story astylistic grain elevator was constructed c.1900; between 2015 and 2019 a large shed-roofed wing was removed from the building’s south elevation (photos suggest that with its stone foundation and brickwork and window/door openings that match those of the remaining building mass, this wing was original to the structure and served as a loading/unloading shed). The existing building is rectangular in plan with a stone foundation, cream brick walls, and a metal-clad gable roof. The front elevation faces east and is asymmetrical in composition. An elevated shed-roofed porch with simple wood supports spans the front façade; the north end of the porch descends gradually to form a ramp. Within the porch are two doors, a small single-pane window, and a larger 2-over-2 window. All doors and windows are located within segmentally-arched openings. The second story of the east elevation contains two 1-over-1 windows within segmentally-arched openings. Another 1-over-1 window in a segmentally-arched opening is located just below the gable. The remains of painted signage are visible along the east and south elevations. Both read “BENTER’S ELEVATOR / PURINA CHOWS.” Metal grain chutes project from the roof; one of these has been reclad in new metal siding.
