| Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Constructed in 1946 as a replacement for an earlier tobacco shed that was destroyed by a storm, the existing Hammond tobacco shed is rectangular in plan with vertical board walls and an asphalt-shingled gable roof. The tobacco shed is oriented along a northwest-southeast axis and contains wide vehicular openings in the center of the northwest and southeast elevations with a small, square ventilation opening just under the southeast gable. The building sits on a dirt floor and features regularly spaced wall boards along both side elevations; the boards are hinged to open outwards, allowing interior ventilation for tobacco drying. A secondary vehicular opening is located in the northeast wall. The interior of the tobacco shed displays the building’s wood frame structure. Rows of wood racks and drying poles remain inside the building on each side of a central drive. See also: #243099, #243100, #243102, #243103, #243104, #243105, #243106 |
