| Additional Information: | Constructed c.1900 (between 1887 and 1900), The Pinewood Trestle is located on the Bearskin State Trail (formerly the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad) over Bearskin Creek, approximately 100 feet east of Lakewood Road. The surrounding landscape is heavily wooded. The structure is a one-span wood pile trestle measuring 63 feet in length and 10 feet in width with wood plank decking and wood railings (both of which were added c.1974) and a timber substructure of locally harvested pine. The substructure is comprised of squared wood stringers that rest on squared wood sills running perpendicular to the stringers; these, in turn, are supported by stacked timber abutments at each end and two timber piers in the waterway. Each pier consists of a row of four timber columns with diagonal wood cross braces on each side and squared wood caps above. Individual wood members are joined using a combination of heavy iron bolts and L-shaped screw plates. Portions of the vertical members and diagonal cross braces are heavily deteriorated. wood bridge |
