Additional Information: | Photos in Google Maps dated 2007 and 2021 and another dated 2012 show that this building still retained its original storefront in 2007, which had two two-light over two-light display windows, a pair of original one-light entrance doors, and its original bulkheads. By 2012, however, the original display windows had been removed and each one had been replaced by a smaller modern double hung window that was set into a clapboard-clad panel. A new survey in 2021 found that these panels had been removed and replaced by large one-light display windows. This building was owned by G. Clemetson in the nineteenth century and housed a general store. 2021: This building had not been previously surveyed before the 2021 survey took place, but it is a largely intact example of the Commercial Vernacular Style that meets survey criteria. The building is rectilinear in plan, two stories tall, has exterior walls that are clad in cream brick, and these walls rest on stone foundation walls. The main façade faces southeast onto Beloit Street and its first story contains a single entrance door to the right that serves the second story, while to the left is a storefront consisting of two large single light display windows that flank an inset entrance that contains a pair of one-light entrance doors. The second story above has four separate segmental-arched window openings, the left three of which are identical while the one to the right is smaller. There are no openings of any kind on either of the building’s side elevations. The building contained a general store from at least 1894-1919 and was owned by G. Clemetson. |
