Additional Information: | CORNICE WITH NEO-BAROQUE ORNAMENT. SOME ALTERATIONS TO FACADE. 2017- "Built in 1910, the Gilmanton State Bank is a one-story commercial vernacular bank building with a stucco-covered foundation, cut stone facade, and flat roof concealed by a parapet. The front (east) facade displays modest German Renaissance Revival influences in its use of horizontal bands of contrasting textured stone, finials, and a central baroque parapet. The main entrance, accessed via concrete steps with a modern metal railing, consists of a glazed wood door and sidelights on the north side of the front facade. The transoms have been infilled and painted. A large picture window with two replacement fixed panes occupies the remainder of the front facade, sheltered by a modern domed awning that covers the upper portion of the window opening. Brick side walls on the north and south (side) elevations have been covered with vinyl siding, which obscures the segmental arch headers of the side windows. The Gilmanton State Bank incorporated in January 1910, completed construction of the subject property in May, and opened for business in July of the same year. The bank was acquired by the Mondovi State Bank in 1938, and continued through a succession of mergers and acquisitions. The interior appears to have been modernized, and the property now functions as a branch of Alliance Bank, an institution that comprises most of the earlier local and regional banks in Buffalo County." -"STH 88: CTH U to STH 37", WisDOT#7730-02-30, Prepared by Mead & Hunt, Inc., (2017). |
