| Additional Information: | This 3-story Commercial Vernacular building was constructed in about 1890 as the Blanchard Hotel with an addition in 1907. The building is of red brick construction and consists of three distinct masses: two projecting end masses and a recessed center mass. The northern mass contains an altered storefront (with vinyl siding and downsized windows); three segmentally-arched 1-over-1 windows at the second story; and three segmentally-arched 1-over-1 windows at the third story. All windows feature stone sills and red brick crowns. The northern building mass is capped by an ornamental, projecting metal cornice with decorative brick detailing below. The center building mass contains a central entrance (consisting of a modern door with a wide surround) with two 1-over-1 windows on each side at the first story; the first story is sheltered by a porch that spans the façade of the recessed center building mass. The porch roof is supported by four smooth columns; a metal railing spans the length of the porch roof which serves as a second-story balcony. Within the balcony is a segmentally-arched doorway with two segmentally-arched 1-over-1 windows on each side; the door and windows feature red brick crowns. The third story fenestration is identical to that of the second story with a smaller balcony resting on decorative metal supports and enclosed by the same metal railings. A patterned brick cornice spans the center mass. The southern building mass contains an altered storefront at the first story (featuring brick and glass block infill and downsized sliding windows with a modern door and transom); four 1-over-1, segmentally-arched windows and a bricked-in center window opening at the second story; and four single-pane, segmentally-arched windows and a glass-block center window (in a segmentally-arched opening) at the second story. All windows feature red brick crowns. The southern building mass is capped by patterned brick cornice. Note that 308 S. Main Street is now a separate parcel. |
