NOTES
Additional Information:2022: This two-story, Contemporary-style bank was constructed in 1968. It has a rectangular plan on an unknown foundation. The irregular roof is constructed of poured concrete amongst other unknown materials. The front (northeast) facade features panels of fieldstone veneer against a stucco backdrop and regularly placed, large, picture windows with transoms. Conversely, the side (northwest) elevation is clad almost exclusively in fieldstone with thin stucco panels and regularly placed, tall, vertical, fixed windows. A concrete walkway is covered by a plaster canopy that mirrors the irregular roof design and shelters an off-center entry with the original glass door with sidelights and a transom. A c.1990, one-story, poured-concrete, flat-roof addition is built off the side (southeast) elevation and a 2003 addition built off the rear (southwest) elevation functions as a drive-thru. A fieldstone retaining wall along the back edge of sidewalk on the northwest property line lightly incorporates the building design into the landscape. The building initially hosted the State Bank of Arcadia, which was founded in 1933 after the Farmers State Bank and the Bank of Arcadia consolidated under the Charter of the Farmers State Bank. Originally located at 130 West Main Street (extant, AHI No. 63995), the bank commissioned the building at 131 West Main Street and relocated in 1968. State Bank of Arcadia opened several additional branches, but the Arcadia branch remained its main office and was the first to offer drive-up banking services after the drive-thru addition was completed in 2003. In October 2021 the State Bank of Arcadia was acquired by and renamed as First National Bank and Trust Company, and continues to serve as a bank. Research, including reaching out to a representative of First National Bank and Trust Company, did not reveal the building’s architect.
