NOTES
Additional Information:2022: This former cheese factory was constructed in 1914. The two-and-one-half-story building has walls constructed of rock-face concrete block, a front-gabled roof covered with standing seam metal, and vinyl siding on the gable ends. The main entrance and a large, single light, wood frame picture window are located on the façade (west elevation) below a painted wood sign reading, “FOX GLEN STORE,” which spans the width of the building at the second story. On the south (side) elevation, the ground rises, covering the bottom third of the building. A secondary entrance centered on this elevation is accessed by a small wooden deck. There is also a second-story entrance on the north (side) elevation, but there are no stairs to access the door. A delivery entrance on the westernmost bay of the north elevation has been replaced with a pair of modern doors. The windows are one-over-one, double-hung vinyl replacements and most have smooth concrete lintels. There are also five modern skylights on the north side of the roof. The cheese factory was originally owned by August Westphal, one of the largest cheese manufacturers in Wisconsin. Known as the “Cheese King,” he owned more than 50 factories and constructed a condensery in Hartford, near his home
