Additional Information: | 2022 - This pair of stone retaining walls (one on each side of STH 110) is located about 1.5 miles south of Marion. They were constructed in 1936 by the WPA, presumably as part of a larger county-wide roadway improvements project undertaken by the Depression-era job creation program. There is a WPA marking on one of the stones on the eastern wall. Each wall is approximately 550 feet in length and between three and five feet in height. They are constructed of mortared random rubble stone with a concrete skim coat along the top. Large portions of each wall have been tuckpointed in recent years and a mortar was used that does not match the original type and color. The ends of each wall slope down to grade. |
