Additional Information: | This 2-story Twentieth Century Commercial building was constructed c.1915. The building held retail businesses at the first floor with a meeting hall above. It is rectangular in plan with brown brick walls and a flat roof. The front elevation faces northeast and is symmetrical in composition (with the exception of alterations to the storefronts). The first story features a recessed center entrance with storefront space on each side. Both storefront spaces have been altered via downsized windows and composition board walls; the original transom openings above the southern storefront space are visible, but the glass has been covered or replaced with opaque panels. The same area is obscured by a vinyl awning above the northern storefront space. A wide band of basketweave patterned brickwork spans the façade between the first and second stories. The second story contains six pairs of replacement 1-over-1 windows; the northern three of these are downsized replacements. The second story windows are set within a single brick surround with contrasting stones at both top corners. This brickwork is mirrored in a horizontal brick band below the roofline. A slight parapet caps the building; this is accentuated by diamond-shaped stone panels at the center and additional stone embellishments at each end and flanking the center bay. |
