Additional Information: | 2022: The Interfalls Lake Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the Black River. The structure was initially constructed in the 1880s as a logging dam and reconstructed between 1931 and 1932. The dam is a typical example of its type and with a normal storage capacity of 180 acre-feet may be classified as large. The overall structure is twenty feet in height with a principal spillway length of twenty-eight feet. Above the dam is a concrete operating bridge with a metal chain link fence. To either side of the dam are concrete embankments. Immediately downstream of the dam, stone retaining walls installed by the CCC are used for erosion control along the banks of the river. The dam was reconstructed a second time in 1950. In 2018, the dam failed after a flood caused the river to rise ten feet. |
