Additional Information: | 2023: The W.R. Harris House is a two-story single-family Greek Revival style residence constructed circa 1873. Characteristic of the style, the house features a long access parallel to the roadway, a symmetrical five bay composition with a central entrance sheltered below a single-story entry porch supported on squared columns, a wide band of trim along the cornice, and eave returns in the gable ends. The principal elevation faces west towards Woodland Lane and the Big Bend Park and Ride. As it stands, the house is irregular in plan consisting of the original side-gabled massed rectangular plan house with one or more additions spanning the full-width of the rear (east) elevation. The original cladding has been covered with asbestos shingle; however, the wide band of wood trim remains intact below the eaves. The windows throughout are replacement one-over-one hung windows that are smaller in size than the original window opening which have been infilled with wood plank casings. The entry porch has been reconstructed with a poured concrete foundation, rock-faced concrete block knee walls, two non-original square posts, and a hipped roof. Two of the original squared pilasters remain intact on either side of the entrance door. A single brick interior chimney rises from the north end of the roof ridge. The W.R. Harris Farmstead consists of a residence (245595), large gambrel barn with attached milk house (245597), agricultural outbuilding (245598), and a garage (245596). Based on the proximity, access drives, and shape of the legal tax parcels, the farmstead may have also included the adjacent residence at W232 S7390 Woodland Lane (AHI 245594). |
