PORTER, WAS THE SON OF A NEW ENGLAND CABINET MAKER WHO HAD SETTLED IN RACINE. HIS STORE WAS HOUSED IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT BUILDINGS IN THE CITY BUT MOVED TO SIXTH IN 1939. WILLIAM PORTER HAD DIED IN 1888, LEAVING THE BUSINESS TO TWO NEPHEWS WHO OPERATED IT UNTIL 1919, WHEN IT WAS SOLD TO SIMON GOTTLIEB. Resurveyed November 2009; appearance unchanged. |
