Additional Information: | This 1-story Art Deco building was constructed in 1935 as Kiel Dairy Products Company (a facility producing and selling cheese, butter, bottled milk, and ice cream). It is rectangular in plan with brick walls and a flat roof. The front elevation faces north and is symmetrical in composition with a metal-framed glass door at the center and two 12-over-12 windows on each side of the door. The door is accented by vertical brick bands on each side that are capped by contrasting stone blocks with fluted surfaces. The stone caps are set in a three-part arrangement with the center cap set higher than the flanking caps. This detail is repeated at both front corners of the façade with three vertical bands of brickwork capped by fluted stone blocks arranged in the same “stepped” pattern. Small stone panels with rosette motifs are centered above both window groupings. The façade of the building is capped by a shallow parapet with metal coping that mirrors the stepped three-part arrangement of the brick and stone detailing across the façade. |
