| Additional Information: | 2023: The Rudolph Franke Farmhouse and its associated outbuildings are located on the grounds of the Good Hope Cemetery (4141 S. 43rd Street). The house was constructed for the Franke family in 1890. It is a two-story, vernacular, cross-gabled house clad in wood siding and topped with an asphalt-shingled roof. Windows are primarily one-over-one, double-hung, wood sashes with metal storm covers. The house has modest Queen Anne details including shingled gable faces, window surrounds with dentilled crowns, and an entrance porch with decorative spindlework. The Rudolph Franke Farmhouse was designated as a Milwaukee Landmark in 2004 because it is one of two homes in Milwaukee County that was converted for cemetery use. According to the Milwaukee County Historical Society’s website, the house was purchased by St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church (AHI #41981) in 1908. While the house appears to be maintained as a private residence, the outbuildings are used for cemetery operations. The property also has two small sheds, a c. 2007 tool shed, and a c. 2015 garage.
