NOTES
Additional Information:This one-and-one-half-story, side-gabled bungalow rises from a concrete foundation and is sheathed with narrow vinyl siding. A gabled roof dormer rises from the roof which extends to shelter the first-floor porch, which is comprised of replacement post supports and railing. Windows throughout the house are largely, one-over-one-light, double-hung sash, with some appearing to be replacements. A three-light bay window occupies the east entrance elevation, while another modest bay projects from the roof gable. A circa-1920 photo of the home indicates that the siding was originally narrow clapboard and the porch posts were thin round columns. Although assessor’s records indicate that the house was built in 1910, it was likely constructed slightly later, perhaps circa 1915. The house was built for Albert S. and Anna Casterton. Born in Michigan in 1869, Albert and his second wife Anna (wed in 1898) moved to Laona sometime between 1900 and 1902, where they ran a general store. In 1912, a fire destroyed the Casterton’s original store building, after which they rebuilt. They ran the store until Anna’s death in 1949, after which Albert moved back to Livingston County, Michigan, where he was born. Albert died in 1955 at the age of eighty-five.
