NOTES
Additional Information:2024: This building was originally built c1890 as the Hotel Veronica. It was later called the Hotel Smith (1898) and finally, as Hotel Austin. In 1922, the building was purchased by Dunphy & Holzman and it served as their wholesale fruit business, Based on available photographs and the updated 1939 Sanborn map, the third floor was removed between 1938 and 1939. The building served as a grocery store, owned and operated by the Holperin family, from the 1920s until 1973. The one-story addition was added c 1962-63. It was then leased by Schultz Bros. Variety Store, following the fire that destroyed the Wall Street building they had been in, The log exterior was added in the 1990s. Please note that the actual surname is spelled Holperin, while the business name dropped the “e” and was spelled Holprin.
