Additional Information:USINGER WAS THE FOUNDER OF THE FRED USINGER SAUSAGE CO. IN MILWAUKEE. HE WAS BORN IN NASSAU, GERMANY ON MAY 15, 1860 AND WAS EDUCATED IN HIS HOMELAND BEFORE ARRIVING IN MILWAUKEE ON OCTOBER 14, 1881. HE ESTABLISHED A SAUSAGE BUSINESS ON N. 3RD ST. BY THE 1920S HIS BUSINESS HAD EXPANDED FROM A SMALL RETAIL SPACE TO A 6 FLOOR FACTORY THAT MADE SAUSAGE FOR SHIPMENT THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA. HE ALSO OWNED A 2,756 ACRE RANCH IN VIRGINIA STOCKED WITH 300 HEAD OF HEREFORD CATTLE. HE ALSO MAINTAINED A FARM ON THE SHORE OF LAKE MICHIGAN ABOUT 10 MILES NORTH OF MILWAUKEE. IN 1882 HE MARRIED LOUISE LORENSE AND THEY HAD 2 CHILDREN, FREDERICK, JR. AND LENA. BEFORE LIVING IN THIS HOUSE, USINGER LIVED AT 3131 W. HIGHLAND BLVD. (RAZED) AND AROUND 1919 HE LIVED AT HIS FARM NORTH OF TOWN. HE DIED ABOUT 1930; LOUISE LIVED HERE UNTIL 1933. IN 1934 THE HOUSE WAS VACANT. Aug. Filter - carpenter. Original estimated cost - $16,000.
