THE FACADE OF THIS STRUCTURE IS FINISHED IN SMOOTH STONE, QUOINS DEFINE THE CORNERS. ELABORATE HOOD MOLDINGS ON THE SECOND STORY INDICATE THE ORIGINAL PATTERN AND SIZE OF FENESTRATION. THE OPENINGS HAVE BEEN CLOSED AND NEW, SMALL WINDOWS INSERTED. THE STOREFRONT HAS BEEN MODERNIZED; ORIGINALLY AN ENTABLATURE WITH PAIRED BRACKETS DIVIDED THE STOREFRONT AREA FROM THE UPPER STORY. THE ORIGINAL DESIGN ALSO INCLUDED A CORNICE CONPLETE WITH BRACKETS AND SLIGHT PEDIMENT. (B)

1992- "This two-story stone construction rectilinear plan Italianate style commercial building was built prior to 1884. 'l'he building measures 25-feet-wide by 60-feet-deep and it rests on a cut stone foundation. The principal facade faces east and it contains now remodeled full-width storefront that ±allows the configuration of the original one. 'l'his storefront is placed between two original pilasters. These pilasters are faced with dressed, regular coursed stone blocks that have raised mortar joints, and the pilasters are crowned by simple stone capitals. 'l'he symmetrical storefront features a canted, deeply recessed center entrance that is flanked by display windows. 1'hese windows have are set in modern metal frames and they have been reduced in height. 'l'he bulkheads have below are faced with vertical wood boards and the original transoms and sign board areas above the windows have also been covered with this material. Early photos show that a bracketed cornice was originally located just above the storefront as well, but this feature has since been removed.

The second story is clad in regularly coursed dressed stone blocks and slightly projecting quoin blocks decorate the edges of the facade. This story is three-bays-wide and the two end bays each contain a basket-handle arch-shaped window opening while the taller center bay contains a door opening of the same design. Each of these openings still retains its elaborate cut stone head, which consists of an entablature supported by small console brackets that forms the base tor a semi-circular-arched pediment that is decorated with a keystone. The door opening is further enriched with fluted stone pilasters with foliated capitals that act as the door jambs, and all three openings have cut stone sills. The window openings originally each contained a two-over-two light double hung window, but these have since been replaced with smaller modern one-over-one light windows and the upper portions of the openings are now filled with plywood. The door opening originally featured panelled sides and contained a recessed pair of threelight doors, but this opening is now also covered over with a plywood sheet. Simple stone coping now crowns the facade, but originally it was crowned with an elaborate bracketed cornice and a triangular pediment.

Although altered, this building is still in good condition and it is believed that enough of its once elaborate facade still remains to justify calling it a contributing resource."
