ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT: THIS IS A VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE SYNTHESIS OF QUEEN ANNE MASSING WITH CLASSICAL DETAILING. SWAG MOTIFS DECORATE THE PORCH FRIEZE AND WINDOW SPANDRELS. THE MAIN GABLE PROJECTS SLIGHTLY AND THE CORNER TOWER BREAKS THROUGH THE ROOF PLANE. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: THOMAS R. MORGAN, NEPHEW OF THE FOUNDERS, JOINED THE MORGAN COMPANY IN 1872. MORGAN WAS IN THE LUMBER BUSINESS. BY 1875, HE WAS IN CHARGE OF BOOKKEEPING. HE LEFT THE FIRM IN 1877 TO RECORGANIZE IT. HE SERVED AS PRESEDENT FROM 1899 UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1903. (C) MR. MORGAN RESIDED IN THE HOUSE FROM 1883, AND MRS. MORGAN RESIDED THERE UNTIL 1908. |
