NOTES
Additional Information:This two story late nineteenth century Commercial Vernacular retail building is located in the middle of the 100 block of South Central Avenue. It housed a single commercial storefront and a three bay wide upper story. The one over one double hung wood sash windows have brick segmental arches with keystones and concrete sill;s. The cornice features two rows of alternating corbelled denticulation. The street level commercial storefront has been recently modernized but still retains its side (north) entry for access to the second floor. The original full length transom may still survive beneath the covering above the show windows. This property is a contributing member of the Marshfield Central Avenue Historic District under Criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places. It is representative of the Architecture Theme of the Wisconsin Cultural Resource Management Plan as an example of Commercial Vernacular architecture with Italianate details. The building's architectural integrity on the second story is high,r while the first story alterations are reflective of continued use and changing stylistic preferences. Built after the fire of 1887 and before 1891, this building housed a saloon through 1912. At that time and through 1946, an unidentified store occupied the building. The historical address for this property was 117 South Central Avenue. In 1946 the number became 135. It is presently known as #133. This property is a contributing member of the Marshfield Central Avenue Historic District under Criterion A of the National Register of Historic Places. It is representative of the Commerce Theme of the Wisconsin Cultural Resource Management Plan as an example of a retail building providing Goods and Services.
