NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' (Columbus Fireman's Park Complex) exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History.

MASSIVE ROOF, HIPPED GABLE, WRAP-AROUND PORCH. LOCAL FIREMEN ORIGINALLY MAINTAINED THE PARK. THE SECOND FLOOR WAS A PUBLIC DANCE HALL AND DURING WWII WAS USED AS A ROLLER SKATING RINK. THE BUILDING IS CURRENTLY USED FOR PRIVATE FUNCTIONS. Fireman's Park was created on what was then the outskirts of the city in 1916 as a city park and place of amusement and the first building constructed there was this very large and remarkably intact wood fairgrounds pavilion, which was constructed by the Columbus contracting firm of Callahan Bros. in 1917 for $10,000.

Also located in Fireman's Park is the Dering Lodge, a.k.a. the Columbus Boy Scout Cabin. It is located outside the boundaries of the National Register listed Fireman's Park Complex but information regarding the Lodge is a part of the Columbus Fireman's Park Complex site file.

A Historic Structure Report of this building can be found in Room 312 at the Wisconsin Historical Society.
