NOTES
Additional Information: RESTORED IN 1986. The New Putney Block stands two stories in height and is constructed of random coursed ashlar, with a corner bartizan of sheet metal. Embossed panels decorate the turret - a structure which culiminates in a conical slate roof. Rectangular windows are disposed on the main elevations; an oriel was removed from the east side. The building is in fair condition. It was owned in 1982 by Putney Associates of 315 W. Gorham Street in Madison. Architectural Significance: The New Putney Block is architecturally significant as a fine local example of Queen Anne Commercial design. Historical Statement: The historical background of all three portions of the Putney Block can be found on the NRHP nomination form for the property. [B]. Other map codes include 1992 City Map 92/125, Map A 50/20, and Insert Map # 143.
