NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT: THE ODDFELLOWS HALL IS A VERY ECLECTIC VICTORIAN DESIGN. THE FACADE IS SYMMETRICALLY ARRANGED WITH DECORATED PILASTERS DIVIDING THE FACADE INTO UNEQUAL SECTIONS. THE ENTRANCE IS COVERED BY A PEDIMENT SUPPORTED ON CONSOLES. AT ATTIC LEVEL THIS IS MARKED BY A DORMER WINDOW SURROUNDED BY A SHAPED GABLE. THE I.O.O.F. EMBLEM IS INSERTED IN THE SECOND STORY. A LARGE ELABORATE SHAPED GABLE MARKS THIS AT THE ATTIC LEVEL. THE BUILDING IS CONSTRUCTED OF RED BRICK WITH A MANSARD ROOF. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST DISTICTIVE BUILDINGS IN THE COMMERCIAL DISTRICT AND PROVIDES AN INTERESTING CONSTRAST TO THE PREDOMINANTLY ITALIANATE STRUCTURES. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: THIS BUILDING HAS BEEN CONTINUOUSLY USED BY THE ODDFELLOWS SINCE ITS CONSTRUCTION IN 1884. IT IS CERTAINLY THE OLDEST BUILDING IN THE CITY DEVOTED TO THE ACTIVITIES OF A FRATERNAL OR SOCIAL ORGANIZATION.
