Additional Information: | Builder was William Morgan. "This home belonged to Charles H. Wilder, an early Evansville businessman who built the first cheese factory in town and operated a lumber yard. In the 1880s, the cheese factory was converted to a tobacco warehouse to service the growing tobacco industry in the region. This home is an excellent example of the later Italianate style with double brackets and dentils under the eaves, ornamental hooded lintels and tall narrow windows. The double door entry with bracketed entry portico and repeated cornice detail is distinctive." Evansville Historic Preservation Commission, Historic Evansville Walking Tour brochure, 2014. |
