| Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. This rustic styled train tunnel features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, an earthen foundation, a stone exterior and a stone trim. According to the intensive survey, the tunnel's foundation is made of stone. A related structure is the tunnel entrance. (See map code 38/8). Elroy Sparta State Trail: "The Elroy-Sparta State Trail is a converted Chicago & Northwestern railroad bed which now accomodates hiking, bicycling and snowmobiling. The trail is 32 miles in lenght and passes through three rock-tunnels between Elroy and Sparta. The Kendall and Wilton tunnel is 1/4 mile long and the Norwalk tunnel is 3/4 mile long." (See Bib. Ref. A) "The Elroy-Sparty Trail is the property of the State of Wisconsin and is a part of the its State Parks System. It is operated by the Department of Natural Resources.
