NOTES
Additional Information:THIS RED BRICK TWO-STORY COMMERCIAL BLOCK WITH A FLAT SLOPING ROOF HAS THREE BAY ORIEL WINDOWS PLACED OVER THE TWO IDENTICAL STORE FRONTS. A CLOUDED GLASS TRANSOM EXTENDS THE FULL LENGTH OF THE FACADE. RECESSED ENTRANCES TO THE SHOPS AND TO THE 2ND LEVEL ARE GROUPED IN THE CENTER OF THE BUILDING. A SIMPLIFIED CUT-BRICK PATTERN FORMS A CORNICE ALONG THE TOP AND A VERTICAL BRICK PATTERN SEPARATES THE UPPER AND LOWER FACADES.

THIS BUILDING IS ARCHITECTURALLY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMERCIAL DISTRICT OF DARLINGTON BECAUSE THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY STYLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED.

THE FIEDLER BUILDING IS HISTORICALLY RELATED TO THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF DARLINGTON'S COMMERCIAL DISTRICT.

FRANK FIEDLER HAD OPERATED A BAKERY ON THE LOT PRIOR TO THIS BUILDING BEING ERECTED IN 1922. THIS BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED AS A DOUBLE STORE WITH FIEDLER'S BAKERY ON THE SOUTH SIDE. THE NORTH SIDE WAS OPENED AS A RESTAURANT.
