Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. for historic district. ARCHETECTURAL STATEMENT: THIS TWO STORY BRICK HOUSE FOLLOWS A DESIGN POPULAR IN OSHKOSH DURING THE EARLY 20'S. THE RECTANGULAR SHAPE, LOW HIP ROOF, CENTRAL ENTRANCE AND BANDS OF WINDOWS ARE ALL CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS TYPE, AND SUGGEST INFLUENCE OF THE PRAIRIE STYLE. INDIVIDUAL DETAILS AND HANDLING OF MATERIALS DIFFER BETWEEN DESIGNS AND ARE OFTEN CLASSICAL OR MORE DEPENDENT ON HISTORIISCISM. THIS PARTICULAR DESIGN APPEARS ALMOST MEDITERRANEAN DUE TO THE INCLUSION OF TILE ROOFS, AND BLIND ARCHES OVER FIRST FLOOR FENESTRATION. AULER AND JENSEN WERE APPARENTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF THESE BUILDINGS. SEE 1103 WASHINGTON AVE. OS 9/19. ALSO SECTION 13 OF OSHKOSH INTENSIVE SURVEY REPORT. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: JOHN G. MORRIS WAS PRESIDENT OF THE R. MCMILLEN COMPANY IN THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY. (A) |
