ARCHITICTURAL STATEMENT: THE MEYER HOUSE IS ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANT AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE ENGLISH COTTAGE STYLE. THE MOST IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF THIS DESIGN IS THE PADDED ROOF WHICH SIMULATES THATCH. THE ROOF APPEARS TO FLOW AROUND AN EYEBROW DORMER ON THE MAIN ELEVATION. THE BUILDING IS CONSTRUCTED OF ROUGHLY COURSED ASHLAR AND ALMOST OBSCURED BY VEGETATION. ANOTHER FINE EXAMPLE OF THE STYLE IS 1369 WASHINGTON. NICE EXAMPLE OF AN ENGLISH TUDOR REVIVAL COTTAGE IS HANDLED QUIETLY IN STONE WITH A CEDAR SHINGLED ROOF. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: HARRY D. MEYER WAS THE SECRETARY OF C. R. MEYER AND CO., A WELL KNOWN LOCAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY. (A) |
