NOTES
Additional Information:Plain projecting cornice with balustrate and parapet above and dentils below; surface articulated by grooved applied corinthian pilasters; floral panels of classical design form aprons for front windows; altered store front and windows. Designed by A. Moorman and Company, a St. Paul firm specializing in the construction and equipment of bank buildings in 1924, the Northwestern State Bank was constructed by the Moorman Company with creme brick (A). Grooved classical capitals applied to the plain brick surface visually support the plain entablature and parapet wall decorated by a facade. Classical derived sway design ornament the spandrels on the Bridge Street facade while the decoration of the south elevation is treated plainly. The street level facade originally exhibiting an entrance with an arched classical frontispiece has suffered unsympathetic alteration (D). Constructed on the site of the earlier Seymour Bank, the Northwestern State Bank is architecturally significant as an example of an early 20th century bank designed to project the image of grandeur and monumentalism associated with the Neo-Classic style. The present Northwestern State Bank building was constructed in 1924 (A). The bank opened for business in January, 1925 (C). It is noteworthy that the Northwestern State Bank was chartered in 1904. For its operation, the bank purchased a brick bank building on the same site as their present bank. The original bank was built in 1883 by D.E. Seymour, an early banker in Chippewa Falls (B). In 1924 this building was razed to make way for the present building (A).
