Additional Information: | Originaly the six-acre estate of Carl Kunckell, fur dealer and soda water manufacturer. The Kunckell family lived there from 1857 to 1941. John Gminski bought the building in 1941 and owns it still. "A rare example in the Milwaukee area of the towered Italian Villa style, this vine-covered brick house enjoys the further distinction of having been a pioneer residence in its neighborhood. It was built for Charles Kunckell (Kunckel), a dealer in furs during the 1850's, and from the 1860's on, a sodawater manufacturer, and remained in the possession of his family for many years. In 1940 the present owners purchased the house, and they are currently at work on its restoration." Pagel, Mary Ellen & Virginia A. Palmer, University Extension University of Wisconsin, Guides to Historic Milwaukee: Walker's Point and South, 1969. |
