Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property under the name "Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Paul & Pacific RR Bridge (Phoenix Park)." It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. This former railroad bridge with adjoining walkway crosses the Chippewa River near the city's center. It is a three span bridge. The westernmost span is a double intersection Pratt type with inclined end posts. The east spans are standard Pratt through truss. This bridge is now part of the Chippewa River State Trail and used as a pedestrian walkway and bike path from the end of Railroad Street on the east side. Also known as Milwaukee Road Bridge #M-194. Bridge was originally constructed 1876. The western span of the bridge is consists of a 232'6" Whipple Through Truss built in 1876 from Bridge #L-4; La Crosse, Wisconsin, relocated to Eau Claire in 1904 and shortened from 247'. The other two spans were built at Bridges #L-2 and L-4 in La Crosse during 1876, and were shortened from 160'10" to 146'3" in 1904 before being moved to Eau Claire in 1904. Floor beams for the bridge were built in 1880 as part of bridge #L-332 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Reference for all information is the Milwaukee Road Archives at the Milwaukee Public Library.
