Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property named 'Bowler Ranger Station'. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Constructed in circa 1939, this retaining wall and wood beam bridge feature an irregularly shaped plan configuration, an earthen foundation, exterior walls made of cut stone and logs, and a wood trim. The retaining walls run along the bank of the creek; also present are decorative water agitation. The structure, which was designed and built by the WPA/DNR, is in excellent condition. Other related buildings to this structure include the pumphouse, retaining walls, footbridge and the ranger station. (See Map Codes 6/16, 6/18, 6/20). 2023: The property's stone retaining walls were constructed by the WPA between 1937 and 1938. Cut stone retaining walls run along the banks of the Embarrass River within the property's boundary. The retaining walls also support a small island in the center of the river that is accessed by a footbridge (AHI #32153). Based on previous photos of the property, portions of the retaining walls within the river have eroded over time. The walls are part of the Bowler Ranger Station.
