Facade divided vertically by full length brick piers topped by Sullivanesque cast white ornament; small white projecting cornice wtih parapet above; flat arched window openings with arched windows composed of 12 lights clear plate glass windows; tiles with pressed ornement between windows; side elevations shows extensive changes have taken place; structure attached to former Linkar Hotel (now Lynne Towers) at the rear. Whited cast stone Sullivanesque ornamentation was adeed to the red brick two bay facade of Desmond's Clothing Store when the new red brick front and two story addtion was imposed c. 1922 on the older two story 1870s building. Exhibiting a facade similar to the old Linker Building, the Desmond Clothing Store served as a rear addition to the Linker Hotel beginning c. 1925. The Desmond Clothing Store contributes to the continuity of La crosse's architecture as one of several representatives fo the 1920s mode of the Chicago Commercial style int he downtown commercial district. Was built as a steam printing building. |
