Additional Information: | One of the few early garages to remain in its original state in La Crosse. Although the store front has been altered, the Arenz Garage constructed in 1916 is an importtant architectural representative of the technological change in the community of La Crosse. Although built by J.S. Arenz of Arenz Shoes at 323 Pearl, the Arenz's never owned a garage here. In 1917, C & F Goethe's Saloon is listed in the city directory at 308, and Rybold and Weihaupt Auto garage at 310. In 1919, the United States employment Sergvice is at 308 and the Kenyon-Kneeland Auto Co. is at 310. By 1922, the Weihaupt Savage Auto Co. is listed at 306 310, suggesting they used the entire building. By 1934 the PopCorn Tavern is lcoated at 308 and the J.G. Weihaupt Co. garage is at 310. 2017 UPDATE - BUILDING APPEARS SUBSTANTIALLY AS IT DID WHEN LAST SURVEYED IN 1996. |
