Additional Information: | The freight depot was constructed by the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha (Omaha) probably in 1897. The Omaha removed their passenger depot from the north side at this time, at the same time building a new passenger depot on the south side. It is likely a freight depot was built at the same time. This freight depot is of significant local historical interest because it represents the period duing the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Chippewa Falls' railroad activities were at a peak. It is the only depot to survive, out of nearly a dozen freight or passenger depots which operated in Chippewa Falls during the city's railroad era. |
