| Additional Information: | Corbeled brick trimmed brick cornice; capped post window mullions; brick quoins; lower front facade altered when converted to apartment house use. rear extension. 1996- "This two-story, brick apartment building has some corbeled brick cornice detailing, brick quoining and an interesting upper story window grouping with pier-like divisions. Due to its recent remodeling, the structure has modern windows and doors, a new entrance overhang, as well as wooden accent trim." - "La Crosse North/South Transportation Corridor", WisDOT ID #5991-04-00, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (1996). 2017 UPDATE - THIS BUILDING LOOKS MUCH LIKE IT DID WHEN LAST SURVEYED IN 1996. 2020 - Resurveyed as comparable property to Fire Station No. 5. This building was originally built as the Engine House No. 3 in 1906, possibly on the site of the earlier 3rd Ward Engine House (constructed in 1872). The building was altered to its current appearance in the early 1980s. Engine bay openings have been bricked over and new windows and doors installed, along with the current gabled front porch. The south (side) man door has also been bricked over. |
